Paramount Pictures, New Regency and Plan B Entertainment officially announced the cast of Adam McKay‘s The Big Short today and it’s an impressive cast to say the least. Based on Michael Lewis‘ best-seller “The Big Short: Inside The Doomsday Machine” about the housing and credit bubble of the 2000s, the film will star Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt and joining them are a pair of Oscar winners in Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler), which is to say this is also sort of a Crazy, Stupid, Love. reunion between Carell, Gosling and Tomei.
The film’s final screenplay is credited to McKay, written from an earlier draft penned by Charles Randolph (Love and Other Drugs) based on Lewis’ book. As for the film’s actual plot, nothing is said other to offer a similar recap as I did above with the press release reading: “‘THE BIG SHORT’ is the remarkable true story of the genius contrarian investors who, recognizing just how insane the housing bubble had become, figured out how to “short” the market prior to the financial collapse of 2008.”
Additional members of the cast include Tracy Letts (“Homeland”), Hamish Linklater, John Magaro, Byron Mann, Rafe Spall, Jeremy Strong and Finn Wittrock. Production has begun in New Orleans.
