With this year’s Best Actor Oscar by his side, the acting world is Eddie Redmanye‘s oyster for the moment, and it looks like Warner Bros. wants to rope the young actor into their latest hot property. If recent reports are to be believed, The Theory of Everything star could lead their upcoming Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
According to Variety, Redmayne is the frontrunner in the studio’s eyes to play Newt Scamander, the franchise’s main protagonist. However, there are multiple actors director David Yates has in consideration for the part, including Nicholas Hoult.
The Wrap notes WB heads are quite taken by Hoult’s performance in next month’s Mad Max: Fury Road and see him as a viable choice. Regardless of whether he gets this part or not, however, sources are confident Hoult will get some tentpole project for his liking. Of course, that didn’t quite work out the first time.
No official offer has been given to Redmanye at this time, and he also has yet to see J.K. Rowling‘s screenplay. So this is all behind-the-scenes chatter for the moment. With the first part of this expected trilogy scheduled to hit theaters on November 18, 2016, negotiations are to go down sooner than later. So whether Redmayne, Hoult or whoever they have in mind takes the brigade, Warner Bros. and Yates should have their man soon.
